Lactase
Product Description
Lactase is an enzyme that is naturally produced in the small intestine of humans and other mammals. Its primary function is to break down lactose, a sugar found in milk and dairy products, into two simpler sugars called glucose and galactose. This process is necessary for the body to be able to digest lactose and absorb the nutrients from dairy products.
Some individuals have a deficiency or absence of lactase in their small intestine, which leads to lactose intolerance. This means that they are unable to fully digest lactose, resulting in symptoms such as bloating, gas, diarrhea, and abdominal pain when consuming dairy products.
To alleviate the symptoms of lactose intolerance, lactase supplements are available. These supplements contain the lactase enzyme and can be taken before consuming dairy products to help break down lactose and improve digestion.
