What is retinoic acid?
Retinoic acid is the metabolite of vitamin A in vivo, which mainly affects the growth of bone and promotes the metabolism of epithelial cell proliferation, differentiation, keratinolysis and so on. Retinoic acid actions
1. Regulates the growth, differentiation, and repair of epithelial and other cells. Retinoic acid can increase the DNA synthesis and mitotic index of epidermal cells, induce epidermal hyperplasia, and thicken the granulosa layer and the spinous cell layer by regulating the mitogen action of epidermal growth factor.
2. Tumor suppression. Retinoic acid inhibits the proliferation of malignant melanoma cells and reduces the clonal growth of human myeloid leukemia cells in vitro.
3. Regulate immune function. Retinoic acid drugs can assist antibody production, inhibit lymphocyte proliferation, increase the number of Langerhans cells and other immunomodulatory effects.
4. Lipid inhibition. The animal sebaceous model showed that isotretinoin could prolong the maturation process of basal cells, thus reducing the number of sebaceous cells and sebum synthesis.
5. Reduce melanin. Retinoids can reduce melanosome transport to epidermal cells and inhibit tyrosinase activity, thereby reducing melanin production.
6. Anti-aging effect. Retinoids can inhibit the activity of collagenase.
